I was born and raised as the middle child of five in Maryland. As children, we always created fantasy scenarios and played! Many of these memories inspire the stories I write. My parents, on the other hand, both immigrated from China before I was born. They worked hard to give my siblings and I a comfortable life. I have learned the importance of hard work, determination, and family values from them. My book, So Long Gnop-Jiye, was a story inspired by my mother’s journey to the United States as a little girl.
I now live and play in New York with my two babies, husband, and silly dog. I received my B.A. in Psychology and Art History from the University of Maryland, College Park, and my M.A. in Teaching from Loyola University, Maryland. I am passionate about creating books that children will hug for ages. When I am not writing or teaching, I am painting outside the lines, cooking without a recipe, or embarking on adventures in and out of books with my family.
